Yesterday was the third and final day of the 24th Cyprus Choreography Platform. Melina Sofocleous received this year’s award for emerging choreographer. After the award ceremony a closing party was held at Madame Bar.
The selection committee in their official statement, expressed gratitude and extended their congratulations to all the artists participated in this year’s edition of the Cyprus Choreography Platform. The committee cogratulatied espevially all three emerging choreographers and their mentor, Christos Polimenakos, for showcasing the diversity of the Cypriot choreographic scene and raising expectations for their future work.
The committee granted the award to Melina Sofocleous for her work "Don’t you just love melting?". The committee acknowledged amongst other things, Sofocleou’s stage inventiveness, bold use of materials, the integration of materials with body and movement, and the overall stage composition.
The Selection Committee comprised of Katrin Moschovaki, Alexis Vassiliou, Marina Kakoulli, Andy Partzilis, and Vassilia Anaxagorou. The award was presented by Katrin Moschovaki, Cultural Officer of the Deputy Ministry of Culture. The prize includes a monetary award of €2,000.
This year’s event was particularly successful, characterized by enthusiasm and a big audience attendance. Hundreds of dance enthusiasts enjoyed innovative choreographic presentations, reflecting the significant progress of contemporary dance in Cyprus.
The festival is co-organised by the Department of Contemporary Culture of the Deputy Ministry of Culture, and the Rialto Theatre.
